New Funding Levels and Eligibility Criteria

The government has allocated an additional 300 million PLN annually to the existing STEM grant framework, raising the total annual budget to 750 million PLN. Eligible applicants include faculty members, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral candidates working in priority areas such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy systems, biotechnology, advanced materials and data science. Proposals must demonstrate clear potential for technological advancement and measurable societal benefits. Applications will be reviewed by independent panels of international experts, with awards distributed over three-year cycles to ensure sustained project development. Priority is given to collaborative efforts involving multiple institutions and industry partners.

Universities across Poland are preparing internal workshops to assist researchers with proposal development. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has published updated guidelines emphasizing open-access publication requirements and data-management standards. These measures align with European Union research policies and aim to facilitate greater participation in Horizon Europe programs.

Expected Outcomes for Academic Institutions

Officials anticipate the expanded funding will support approximately 450 new research positions and 120 collaborative projects within the first two years. Institutions such as the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University and Wrocław University of Science and Technology are positioned to receive substantial shares of the grants. The initiative also includes provisions for laboratory upgrades and international exchange opportunities designed to attract talent back to Poland.

Long-term projections indicate improved publication output and patent filings in targeted STEM fields. By fostering stronger links between academia and industry, the program is expected to contribute to economic growth and enhance Poland's competitiveness within the European research landscape. Monitoring mechanisms will track progress through annual performance reports submitted by grant recipients.
